Our Mission

Every day Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver hot, nutritious meals to around 150 homebound people in the Summerville area. The people we serve are often referred by local agencies like churches, hospitals and doctors. They are qualified based on their physical, emotional or mental impairments – not financial need.

There is no charge for the food or delivery. The operation is run entirely by volunteers and your donations. We receive NO GOVERNMENT FUNDING and that means this program is run by our community for our community. Our budget is just over $150,000 per year and that’s quite a feat considering the costs of food today. It costs roughly $1000 per year to feed one person-one meal-Monday through Friday. The daily functions of our volunteers include cooking and packaging the food (remember it’s a HOT meal!) delivering the meal, and raising the money to continue this wonderful program.

Volunteer of the month

Elbert Massad – Congratulations!

VOM_EM4Elbert Massad, originally from Benson, North Carolina, delivers meals on the Pineburg Dairy route, and each Wednesday at 5am he picks up bread donations from Publix to be given to our recipients. Elbert is retired from Alumax-Alcoa and he and his wife Brenda have volunteered for 9 years. In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing, cooking and volunteering for several charities. Thanks for your hard work and dedication to MOW!
