Our Mission

Every day Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver hot, nutritious meals to around 150 homebound people in the Summerville area. The people we serve are often referred by local agencies like churches, hospitals and doctors. They are qualified based on their physical, emotional or mental impairments – not financial need.

There is no charge for the food or delivery. The operation is run entirely by volunteers and your donations. We receive NO GOVERNMENT FUNDING and that means this program is run by our community for our community. Our budget is just over $150,000 per year and that’s quite a feat considering the costs of food today. It costs roughly $1000 per year to feed one person-one meal-Monday through Friday. The daily functions of our volunteers include cooking and packaging the food (remember it’s a HOT meal!) delivering the meal, and raising the money to continue this wonderful program.

Volunteers of the month

Lori Carlson – Congratulations!

VOM_LCLori Carlson moved to Summerville from the Pocono mountains of PA in 2007 when her husband started a business, Streit USA Armoring, which has been a huge supporter of Meals on Wheels through a fundraiser in their community. When her granddaughter started kindergarten in 2013, Lori found herself with free time so she decided to give back to the community and chose to volunteer for MOW. When not volunteering, Lori enjoys quiet mornings, reading, and spending time with her family. Thanks Lori for volunteering and supporting MOW!
