Adopt-a-Route

What is Adopt-a-Route?

It's Meals on Wheels of Summerville's Corporate Volunteer Program, providing an effective way for companies, organizations, churches and groups to get involved in the community.

Why Volunteer?

Helping your Summerville neighbors not only improves the community we live in but also connects your volunteers and staff with the roots that make doing business in Summerville so special. Employee volunteerism works because it improves performance, increases job satisfaction and morale while encouraging teamwork. Volunteering not only builds brand awareness but strengthens consumer trust and loyalty. Recent studies have shown that companies that help employees volunteer with nonprofit organizations could have an advantage in recruiting new talent.

How many people from my company, organization or group need to sign-up?

It will depend on how many routes you would like to deliver and if it will be a "DONE IN A DAY" team building experience or if it will be a regular ADOPT-A-ROUTE? Each delivery route adopted will need at least 2 drivers. For example, if your team has 6 volunteers and you decide to deliver once a month you may rotate groups of 2 each month until your entire team has had the opportunity to participate. For more information please contact Jean Gross or Kelli Wallace at 843-873-8224.

How often and what time are the meals delivered?

Meals are delivered daily Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The pick-up window opens at 11:00 a.m. and a typical route can be completed between 1 to 1.5 hours.

Where will we deliver meals?

Meals are delivered in Dorchester, Berkley, and Charleston Counties. Routes will be assigned based on the proximity to your organization or company.

How many meals will we deliver?

A typical route has between 8-15 clients.

How do we deliver meals?

Volunteers use their own cars to pick up the prepared meals at Ambler Hall on the St. Paul's Church grounds. An insulated bag or cooler will be provided to ensure the meals are kept to temperature while delivering.

How long is our commitment?

A route takes approximately 1-1.5 hours to complete. A commitment of once a month for at least 6 months is desired, but this can be tailored to best fit your organization/company.
